More than 1400 immigrants More than 1, 400 Iraqi immigrant citizens have been stopped from being deported by a federal US judge in Michigan which is the latest legal triumph for them. Mark Goldsmith the US District Judge offered the initial injunction that was appealed for by the lawyers of the American Civil Liberties Union. The lawyers disputed that the Iraqi immigrant citizens would be persecuted in Iraq as they are believed to be religious and ethnic minorities there. The US District Judge said that the injunction will offer the Iraqi immigrant citizens a chance to question their removal in federal courts. Many of them confronted agitated hunt for legal help after the US government suddenly revived their orders for deportation after many years, added Goldsmith. In his 34 page order, Goldsmith wrote that additional time assures that those who are facing possible death and grave harm are not sent out of the US before facing the court. This decision means that no Iraqi immigrant citizens can be sent from the US for many months, as quoted by the Indian Express. The request for a response was not immediately answered by the representative of the US Attorney Office in Detroit. The 1, 444 Iraqi immigrant citizens in the US are facing final orders for deportation against them.  However, only around 200 of them were detained by the US Immigration authorities as a part of their nationwide drive. The American Civil Liberties Union had appealed against the detention orders of the Iraqi immigrant citizens on July 15. The lawyers contended that these immigrants could face death, or torture and persecution as many of them belonged to Iraqi Kurds or Sunni Muslims and Chaldean Catholics community. They are well recognized as objects of ill-treatment in Iraq, said the lawyers. ACLU attorney Miriam Aukerman said that the verdict of the court gives a meaningful and realistic opportunity to present their case.
